Israel has expanded its raids on humanitarian centers in Gaza. In less than four days, 13 healthcare centers in the city has been pounded by Israel. WHO stressed on the emergent need for healthcare equipment to be shipped inside the besieged city.
Tuesday saw a plea from the World Health Organization for a humanitarian corridor into the enclaved Gaza Strip. Israel is laying the toughest siege to the Palestinian territory that is being blockaded. According to a WHO official, since the weekend there have been 13 strikes on medical institutions in Gaza.
Since the commencement of hostilities, almost 200,000 individuals, or about 10% of the population, have left their houses in the Gaza Strip. The enclave might experience water and energy shortages as a result of an Israeli embargo, the UN’s human rights department said.
Since Saturday morning, there have been more than 187,500 individuals displaced throughout the Gaza Strip. Most people are finding shelter in schools, OCHA spokeswoman Jens Laerke said at a briefing in Geneva, adding that more displacement was anticipated.
Large tower blocks and other residential structures have been hit by Israeli airstrikes. According to the UN human rights head, it has also attacked UN and educational facilities throughout Gaza, killing civilians.
“International humanitarian law is clear: the obligation to take constant care to spare the civilian population and civilian objects remains applicable throughout the attacks,” Volker Turk stressed in a statement.
A tighter blockade of the Gaza Strip has been declared by Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Turk responded by stating that “sieges” that put the lives of people in peril are against international law.
