A report by the Wall Street Journal revealed this Thursday that the US has played a critical role in Israel’s genocide in Gaza by sending Tel Aviv more than 100 weapons shipments.
Since the war in Gaza started back on October 7, the Biden administration has, on several occasions, blamed Israel for practicing unprecedented violence in Gaza and killing hundreds of thousands of Palestinian men, women, and children.
Expressing human rights concerns, US President Joe Biden himself told the Israeli Prime Minister during a phone call early this month that Israel should not launch a military operation in Rafah “without a credible and executable plan for ensuring the safety of and support for the more than one million people sheltering there”.
Likewise, former US ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk also addressed the matter in an interview with the Washington Post last week and said that “if Israel launches an offensive in Rafah without adequately protecting the displaced civilian population, it may precipitate an unprecedented crisis in US-Israel relations, even involving arms supplies,”
However, what the Biden administration has done for Israel during these five months of the war in Palestine proves that the words and deeds of the United States in regard to the war in Gaza have been quite the opposite.
To read between the lines, a report by the Wall Street Journal that was released this Thursday revealed that from day one when the war erupted on October 7 till today, the US has been quietly flooding ships of weapons to Israel, helping the Israeli military to kill so many innocent civilians in Palestinian lands.
“As the White House publicly feigns concern for the mass murder of Palestinian civilians by Israel, for the past five months, the Pentagon has delivered tens of thousands of bombs used to flatten the Gaza Strip,” the WSJ report said.
According to the report, “the US government has secretly made over 100 weapons shipments to Israel since 7 October, fueling the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza by delivering tens of thousands of precision-guided munitions, small-diameter bombs, bunker busters, small arms, and other lethal weapons without notifying Congress.”
The US can no longer claim concerns over human rights!
What ruins the US reputation regarding human rights concerns, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) revealed, is that as the Biden administration kept rebuking Israel for killing Palestinians in Gaza, it has only officially notified Congress of two shipments made under the major foreign weapons sales process, sending the other 98 shipments quite secretly.
“US President Joe Biden bypassed Congress to approve the two publicly disclosed arms transfers by invoking an emergency authority. However, to hide dozens of other transfers, the White House relied on less public mechanisms, which include drawing from US stockpiles, accelerating previously approved deliveries and sending weapons in smaller batches that fall below a dollar threshold that requires the administration to notify Congress,” the report further clarified.
Since the war in Gaza started, more than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks from air and ground, the largest number of casualties in any war since the end of WWII. What makes matters even more alarming is that more than two-thirds of this figure are women and children. But despite this genocide that is still ongoing, Washington is continuing to provide military and political assistance for Israel.
Ironically enough, the Biden administration has even announced its readiness to defend Israel against genocide accusations made by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that was first brought to the Court by South Africa last month. Not to mention cutting the funds the US previously provided for the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), the UN agency for assisting Palestinians.
