The most powerful Israeli lobbying group, AIPAC , is teaming up with other Jewish special interest organizations to try and shape the narrative in US media about the Israel-Palestine war.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC ), the largest and most influential pro-Israel lobbying group in the US, has launched a media campaign, called the 10/7 Project, along with four other major Jewish organizations, to defend Israel’s actions and interests in the ongoing conflict with Hamas and the Palestinians. The campaign, which was announced on Monday, aims to counter the negative and biased coverage of Israel in the US media, and to promote a more balanced and accurate perspective of the situation.
The campaign is a joint initiative of AIPAC , the American Jewish Committee, The Jewish Federations of North America, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. These five groups represent a broad spectrum of the Jewish community in the US, and have a combined membership of more than 3 million pro-Israel Americans. The campaign is also supported by hundreds of other Jewish and non-Jewish organizations, as well as prominent individuals, such as celebrities, politicians, academics, and religious leaders.
The campaign’s name, the 10/7 Project, refers to the date of the surprise attack by Hamas on southern Israel, which killed more than 1,200 Israelis and wounded thousands more, and sparked the current war in Gaza. The campaign’s slogan is “Stand with Israel. Stand with the truth.” The campaign’s logo is a blue star of David with the words “10/7” in white. The campaign’s website is www.107project.org.
Strategy
The campaign’s main strategy is to use various media platforms, such as social media, online ads, podcasts, radio, TV, and print, to disseminate factual and reliable information about the war, and to counter the misinformation and propaganda spread by Hamas and its supporters. The campaign also aims to highlight the human and moral dimensions of the war, and to showcase the stories and voices of the Israelis and the Palestinians who are affected by the violence. The campaign also seeks to mobilize and empower the pro-Israel Americans to speak up and take action in support of Israel and its right to defend itself.
The campaign’s organizers said that the campaign is necessary and urgent, as they believe that Israel is facing an unprecedented and unfair media onslaught, which portrays it as the aggressor and the oppressor, and ignores or minimizes its legitimate security concerns and its efforts to minimize civilian casualties. They said that the US media has been influenced by the pro-Palestinian activists, who have used social media, protests, and boycotts to sway public opinion and pressure the US government and the international community to condemn and isolate Israel. They said that the US media has also failed to report on the atrocities and crimes committed by Hamas, such as the use of human shields, the indiscriminate rocket fire, and the violation of human rights and international law.
The campaign’s organizers said that the campaign is not only about defending Israel, but also about defending the truth and the values that the US and Israel share, such as democracy, freedom, and justice. They said that the campaign is also about standing in solidarity and sympathy with the innocent and suffering people on both sides, and calling for an end to the violence and a peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict. They said that the campaign is also about strengthening the US-Israel relationship, which they consider as vital for the security and stability of both countries and the region.
