Israeli audio and video services were targeted by a group of hackers named “Savior” in a chain of attacks.
Reports indicate that television and radio infrastructures in Israel were hacked by an unknown group who calls itself the “Savior”. Following the attacks, the transmission of diverse channels was controlled by the group administrators for hours.
Yedioth Ahronoth, the most widely circulated Israeli newspaper, confirmed the attack explaining that following the operation, the hackers started broadcasting videos and audios concerning the liberation of Jerusalem and the occupation of Palestinian lands.
Cyber-attacks against Israel is not unprecedented. Hackers of the same group attacked Israeli digital infrastructure before the Al-Quds (Arabic for Jerusalem) Day last year. In those attacks, various academic, technological, and administrative infrastructures were targeted by the Savior.
The name “Savior” is believed to refer to the Islamic belief that the last Imam, religious leader, who disappeared centuries ago, will return to the world and save the humanity.
The new wave of attacks is also taking place on the verge of Al-Quds day. The international Al-Quds day, designated by the former Iranian Leader Ayatollah Khomeini, marks the unification of Islam world against the occupation of Palestinian lands by Israel.
With the protest of the Al-Quds day to come on Friday, the last Friday of Islamic Ramadan month, it is believed that there will be more cyberattacks on the way.
During the past year, Israeli defense system in field and cyber areas, has proved to have major drawbacks. Israel suffered numerous attacks by Hamas and its affiliates in previous months. Iron Dome and similar advanced defense systems failed to work in critical conditions like attacks against Dimona nuclear facility. While Tel Aviv boasts its defense and cyber power with outsized expenses, recurrent assaults by Hamas on the ground field and attacks by hacking groups on the cyber-infrastructures has sold the country’s defense systems down the river.
