Results of a new poll show that most people in Lebanon believe Hezbollah’s presence in the country is essential to deter Israel, and that the US is the reason why the Gaza war is still ongoing.
According to the results of a newly conducted poll in Lebanon, the majority of Lebanese believe that Hezbollah’s presence and actions are necessary to deter Israel and prevent it from invading Lebanon.
“More than 50 percent of people living in Lebanon agree that the primary factor deterring Israel from launching a full-out war on Lebanon is the presence of Hezbollah and what the group does to deter Israel,” the poll said.
Carried out by the Consultative Center for Studies and Documentation, the poll involved 400 individuals across Lebanon split into their respective religious sects, including Muslims, Christians, and Druze.
Asked ‘what has prevented Israel from launching a full-scale attack against Lebanon?’, around 60 percent considered the reason to be “the presence of Hezbollah, its demonstration of its growing strength, and its revealing of an important aspect of these capabilities during the current confrontations.”
They also asserted that Lebanon’s position within the Axis of Resistance empowers the country’s stance against Israel and helps deter any future aggression by Israel against Lebanon.
Washington is why the Gaza war doesn’t end; Lebanese believe!
The poll also asked questions about the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas and the result was interesting.
When asked ‘what is the main reason behind the continuation of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza?’ a huge number of respondents said it is all because of the United States. “90 percent of those polled agreed that the US is the main reason behind the continuation of the escalation and the failure to end it,” the poll said.
Since the beginning of the Gaza war on October 7, the US has been among the few countries that have shown full support for Israel, supplying money and weapons to Tel Aviv to continue the invasion of Palestinian lands.
Israel-Lebanon tensions at peak since October 7
Since the beginning of the armed conflict in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, a second front has also opened on the border with Lebanon, where the Lebanese Islamist movement Hezbollah supports its Palestinians against the Israeli invasion of Gaza.
The results of the poll come as Israel has begun new rounds of attacks against Lebanon. On this Monday, Israeli jet fighters launched strikes at the industrial area in Ghaziyeh, near Saida, is the third-largest city in Lebanon.
The strikes came shortly after Hezbollah claimed responsibility for two attacks on Israeli posts in the border area of Shebaa Farms a day before on Sunday. Israel then launched another attack against on a village in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, killing at least three people, including a woman and two children.
Reuters news agency, quoting from two Lebanese security sources, also said that at least seven other people were injured in these attacks to southern Lebanon.
