Everyone Now Says Netanyahu Must Resign [Part One]

As the Israel-Hamas war is still ongoing after nearly one month, many in and out of Israel want Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign from his position.

With no end in sight for the war between Israel and Hamas, voices of opposition against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are now being heard louder than ever. Many experts, political and military officials, as well as the majority of people in Israel consider Netanyahu responsible for the war and they are now unanimously calling for Netanyahu to resign. Even former and current US officials believe Netanyahu’s days are numbered and he should leave.

Nehemia Shtrasler, political analyst from Haaretz, also believes that Hamas’ surprise attack against Israel was the worst failure in the country’s history and for that, Netanyahu should resign. “It is more serious even than the failure of Yom Kippur. The surprise was greater, the “concept” adhered to more stupid, the neglect more terrible, the blow to morale worse, the chaos crazier, the shock stronger, and the number of civilians murdered is the highest ever. That’s more than enough reason why Netanyahu should resign now.” Shtrasler noted.

In an article titled “Is This the End of the Netanyahu Era?”, Isaac Chotiner, political analyst from New Yorker News Website says that “Hamas’s October 7th attack on Israel, during which more than fourteen hundred people were killed, has provoked significant anger at Netanyahu. More than half of Israelis believe that he should resign as soon as the war in Gaza is over, and almost nine in ten say that Hamas’s incursion represented a failure of his government’s leadership. All these numbers say he should resign.” Chotiner said, referring to recent poll carried out by the Dialog Center.

Reported by Jerusalem Post this Friday, the poll showed that 94 percent of Israelis believe the government was responsible for the lack of security that led to the infiltration of Israel’s south, and 56 percent said Netanyahu should resign after the current conflict ends.

In addition to the poll by the Dialog Center, another recent poll conducted by Israel’s Channel 13 Television also indicated that 76 percent of Israelis believe Netanyahu should step down, and 64 percent advocate holding elections immediately following the conflict.

It was on this Saturday that large-scale protests erupted in Israel with hundreds of protesters outside Netanyahu’s residence calling for his resignation. some demonstrators even chanted “Jail now!” as they pushed through security barriers. In Tel Aviv, Israel’s commercial center, several thousand protesters, including relatives and friends of the captives, called out, “Bring them home now.”

Believing that Netanyahu should have resigned by now, Alon Pinkas, political analyst from Haaretz, also asserted that Netanyahu is now counting on fatigue and public despair to help him stay in office, but he can’t be trusted to manage a war and it won’t save him from an enduring legacy of failure. When the war is over, whether in three weeks or three months, all political hell will break loose and he should be leaving by now.

Joe Buccino, a political analyst from the Hill, also joined the ‘Netanyahu out” campaign and said in an article that Netanyahu must go as soon as possible. “It will also take some study to determine how Israeli intelligence failed so catastrophically. Likewise, a complete analysis of the Israel Defense Forces’ misunderstanding of Hamas’s intentions and capabilities requires a full investigation.” Buccino said, adding that “there is one judgment, however, that requires no further inquiry: Benjamin Netanyahu must not remain Israel’s prime minister. This failure is on his hands, and he cannot serve the people of Israel beyond the immediate moment.”
