According to Anadolu, Palestine on Sunday issued a warning to the incoming Israeli government not to alter the situation in occupied East Jerusalem.
In accordance with a coalition agreement reached with the incoming prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, extremist politician Itamar Ben-Gvir will serve as Israel’s minister of national security.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry issued a statement claiming that “the Netanyahu-Ben-Gvir deal gives him enormous powers to practice his extremist and racist policies and agenda, including conducting extensive and radical changes to the existing historical and legal status quo at the holy site.”
A direct threat to escalate the conflict throughout the entire region, the ministry warned, would be to alter the status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque in any way.
The declaration urged the international community to maintain its vigilance regarding the risks posed by Israeli settlers’ incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Dozens of Israeli settlers reportedly stormed the sensitive Al-Aqsa Mosque complex early on Sunday, according to the Jordanian-run Jerusalem Endowment Department.
Ben-Gvir holds extreme right-wing views regarding Palestinians. He frequently goes along with Israeli settlers when they storm the volatile Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in occupied East Jerusalem.
He had previously demanded the eviction of Palestinians and sparked a wave of unrest in East Jerusalem after establishing a business in the Sheikh Jarrah district.
The far-right views of Ben-Gvir have “the whole world worried,” Israeli President Isaac Herzog claimed in a leaked audio earlier this month.
The third holiest place in the world for Muslims is Al-Aqsa. Jews, on the other hand, refer to the region as the “Temple Mount,” asserting that there were once two Jewish temples there.
During the 1967 Arab-Israeli War, Israel occupied East Jerusalem, which includes Al-Aqsa. In 1980, it annexed the entire city in a move that was never acknowledged by the international community.

According to Reuters, a far-right politician who is expected to hold a key position in Israel’s incoming government warned his supporters in a recording that was leaked on Sunday not to try to advance his agenda too quickly because some proposed legislation might work against them.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the incoming prime minister, promised Jewish Power leader Itamar Ben-Gvir a position as security minister with increased authority over the police in Israel and the Israeli-occupied West Bank last week.

Ben-Gvir wants to transition from being a raucous, illegal, racist, and terrorist to a man with official responsibilities so he can use the positions he would assume to turn this racism and hatred into official government policy.
