Israel is already showing unprecedented violence against Palestinians a few days before Netanyahu’s new government starts working.
About two weeks before the newly elected members of Israel’s 25th Knesset swear in and Benjamin Netanyahu starts working as the new PM on 15 November, Israel is already showing huge violence against the people of Palestine.
This is mostly because to be able to form his new government, Israeli Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu needs the support of the right-wing bloc leaders such as Itamar Ben-Gvir, who have a huge longing for restoring to violence against Palestinians. A support from such extremist far-right politicians will therefore force Netanyahu to grant them with high positions in his government, which will in turn increase the likelihood of more violence in Palestine.
“Netanyahu’s return is likely to have far-reaching implications for Palestinians, particularly those living in the West Bank, not just because of his own hostility toward Palestinians and a genuine two-state solution, but also because of the likelihood that far-right extremists like [Itamar] Ben-Gvir will be part of the government ” said Khaled Elgindy, director of the Program on Palestine and Palestinian-Israeli Affairs at the Middle East Institute.
But it seems Israel has already began restoring to violence in Palestine. Just to give an example, it was on this Friday that an Israeli soldier executed a Palestinian youth in the West Bank city of Nablus following a short scuffle between them.
According to a video footage of the shooting, the Israeli soldier tried to arrest the young Palestinians, later recognized to be Hamdy Mefleh, 22, but when he refused and pushed the soldier away from himself, the soldier’s automatic rifle fell down and he used his pistol to execute Mefleh.
To make matters worse, eyewitnesses present at the scene also said that the Israeli Occupation soldiers, who were watching the execution, prevented residents and ambulances from providing aid to the youth as he was still alive. Likewise, Israeli Occupation troops attacked Palestinian students on their way to school in Deir Samet village, based in the southern West Bank city of Hebron this past Thursday.
According to a report from Wafa news agency, a group of armed soldiers fired tear gas and concussion bombs around the area and inside the Akka Elementary Co-ed School, causing suffocation cases among dozens of students and staff.
Israel condemned at UN for increasing violence against Palestinians
Criticizing the rising violence against Palestinians, Palestine’s UN Envoy Riyad Mansour described Israel’s incoming government as “fascist” on Monday.
“There will be fascists holding cabinet positions in the Israeli side,” Mansour told reporters in New York, adding also that “the attacks against the Palestinian people will increase, with the new government in Israel officially coming to power. Mansour also called on the UN Security Council to deal with Israel’s new government in a different way to protect the Palestinian people.
Bringing the issue to the Security Council the same day, UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, said that the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians “is again reaching a boiling point”, warning of escalating violence amid a stalled peace process.
“After decades of persistent violence, illegal settlement expansion, dormant negotiations and deepening occupation, the conflict is again reaching a boiling point,” he said. Good to mention that since January this year, more than 100 Palestinians in the West Bank have been killed by Israeli forces.
