Last year, the Sheikh Jarrah evictions in Jerusalem sparked an insurrection that spread throughout the West Bank and major Palestine, climaxing in Israel s May 2021 war on Gaza, known by Palestinians as the” Sword of Jerusalem” battle.
The Unity Intifada was followed by the emancipation of six captives through the” freedom lair”; the prosecution of a series of fortified resistance operations in the West Bank and the 1948 territories; and the recent launch of Israel’s” Breaking the swells” operation to halt the juvenescence of popular resistance which has come in swells since 2004.
The Palestinian Authority( PA) under the direction of President Mahmoud Abbas doesn’t endorse for resistance in all forms, preferring to support emblematic and temporary gestures to please the members of the Fatah movement, who ask to be connected to the palpitation of the thoroughfares and resistance to occupation.
This rearmost insurrection was also anteceded by the PA’s cancellation of elections, in which it was anticipated to suffer a disturbing defeat, under the rationale of Israel’s denial of voting rights to Palestinians in Jerusalem.
It was further fueled in the wake of the PA’s own crusade of suppression, including the loss of political activist Nizar Banat during his arrest.
Backstory
During this period, the United States gave vague pledges to the Palestinian Authority, including its support for a” profitable peace plan” and security collaboration, without any political result, hoping they could save the status quo.
This major moment furnished the environment for the conformation of the Jenin Armies and other resistance groups, including the popular” Lion’s Den”, which represents a shift from former swells of intifada, counting substantially on fortified resistance, only within a few months.
The group calls for direct competitions against both occupation forces and fortified settlers, and frequently its calls are heeded.
As the main political coalitions were formerly again engaged in conciliation give-and-takes in Algeria without reaching a result, the Lion’s Den called for a one- day general strike in the West Bank. Despite receiving no support from the traditional parties, the call was enforced extensively.
What sets this insurrection piecemeal from others is that it brings together fortified struggle with other popular forms of resistance. likewise, unlike in the” cutter intifada”, which was carried out by individualities, this insurrection is led by groups of people across the West Bank.
It began in the northern megacity of Jenin and also spread to Nablus, Jerusalem, and to a lower extent Ramallah and Hebron.
In their public statements, these insurrectionary groups have maintained they don’t represent any coalitions, and refuse to wrap the bodies of their killers in the banners of the leading political parties.
Yet they’ve garnered support from groups similar as the Popular Front for the Emancipation of Palestine (PFLP), and indeed financing from Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
Members of all these Palestinian political parties operate in these new armies, including fighters from the Fatah movement who reject the PA’s approach.
still, the Jenin and Nablus groups are extremely careful to not directly defy the PA, as they believe the rifle should be refocused towards the occupation. They depict a public concinnity that’s continuously cultivating and coordinating with one another.
