Early hours of Thursday marked Russian soldiers’ invasion against Ukraine, waging an all-out attack through land, sea, and air. The aggression is the largest single-state offensive in a Europe since decades ago.
Rockets hit the Ukrainian targets across the country. Kiyv confirmed reports about columns of Russian and Belarusian troops flowing through North, South and East in land and seas.
Ukrainian capital, hosting more than 3 million residents, was rocked by blasts before daybreak and during the early morning. People rushed as gunshots rang out, sirens shouted, and vehicles jammed roads of town.
Weeks of unsuccessful diplomatic attempts by Mainstream politicians to prevent war came to a disastrous conclusion with the attack. “Russia treacherously attacked our state in the morning, as Nazi Germany did in the WW2 years,” president Zelenskiy posted in a tweet on Thursday.
Ukrainian President urged all citizens to preserve their nation, saying that anybody, willing to fight, can receive weaponry. Volodymyr Zelenskiy also urged Russian nationals to come to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with Russia’s ill conduct.
Repeating former claims about NATO involvement in Ukraine, Russian president Vladimir Putin said Moscow had no other option. Putin also referred to the threats posed by what he described as the rise of “neo-Nazis” in Ukraine. Published at the heels of a devastating war, Vladimir Putin also warned about any foreign intervention. “Whoever tries to hinder us, or threaten our country or our people, should know that Russia’s response will be immediate and will lead you to consequences that you have never faced in your history. All necessary decisions in this regard have been made. I hope that I will be heard,” Russian president asserted.
Ukraine vis-à-vis Middle East
In part of his address to the world, Russian president referred to the aggressions in Libya, Syria, and Iraq. Putin asserted that the hostilities by the western powers provided the terrorism with a hotbed across the region.
He also referred to the illegal military involvement in Syria with the government’s consent. The Iraq war, according to Putin was also based on false accusations to make a pretext for the intervention.
Putin’s remarks about the Middle Eastern countries rings a bell about the blood-filled history of the Middle East. United States, UK, and other western powers waged destructive wars claiming thousands of lives and leaving millions homeless.
The fresh hostility against Ukraine are also based on claims that lack enough evidence. West’s response to the Russian attack is also ironic, selling an three de-decade ally down the river.
United States President, in remarks widely derided online, responded the attack saying he was ‘praying‘ for the dead in Ukraine. Joe Biden’s negligence, despite former American commitment over security of Ukraine, infuriated the people across Ukraine.
The response by European allies of Ukraine was no better promising. “These are among Europe’s worst hours since World War II,” EU foreign affairs chief asserted. Josep Borrell’s remarks seems more in favor of the rest of Europe then Ukraine under fire. Other western powers also sufficed to condemnations and promising sanctions against Moscow.
Following independence from Russia in 1991, Ukraine faced a proposal by the United States, UK, and Russia. Having been the third country with the most nuclear armament, Kyiv accepted the three’s commitment safeguard the Ukrainian security in return for disarmament.
Three decades later, Ukraine is under fire by one side and the other two are praying. Ukraine is the new Middle East: a victim of trust.
