Further solidifying Bahrain’s involvement at the international level was a thought-provoking discussion session initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the Diplomatic Forum, within the context of the festivities marking Bahrain Diplomatic Day. The title of this session was “The Role of Bahrain’s Mission in New York and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters during Bahrain’s Upcoming Membership in the UN Security Council,” and thus it provided an avenue for frank and open discussion of Bahrain’s strategic planning process in preparation for full membership in the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term.
It was presided over by Ambassador Jamal Faris Al Rowaiei, Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, and with contributions from Hatem Abdulhamid Hatem, Chief of the Organizations Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to whom invaluable comments were availed which shed light on Bahrain’s ambitious yet focused approach to gain membership to the Security Council through which the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain to uphold its commitment to world peace and security are very much apparent.
In his voluminous presentation, Ambassador Al Rowaiei underscored the fact that the candidature of Bahrain to the Security Council is anything but symbolic; rather, it reflects the determined desire of the State of Bahrain to play an effective role within the international framework for the attainment of peace and security. In this respect, Bahraini diplomacy worldwide, and specifically New York, is particularly well-placed to contribute toward such a reality. Most particularly underscored were the issues of conflict resolution, sustainable development, and enhancement of global cooperation against emergent challenges.
Otherwise, Hatem Abdulhamid Hatem highlighted the concerted effort of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to bring all the parties together at the international level in order to consolidate Bahrain’s candidacy. Highlighted the meaning of Bahraini diplomatic efforts as having the necessary positive impact on the position of the Kingdom internationally, making it one of the closest players in global decision-making. Hatem also cited a series of NTMs launched by the Ministry in international coordination aimed at making alliances along with being able to garner supportive votes from member states.
A session that reminisced on the past experience of Bahrain as a member of the Security Council in 1998-1999 comfortably provided a historical perspective against which to measure and fine-tune the current objectives. Burning discussions would be on what learned from the past tenure of Bahrain to ensure utilization in reinforcing future opportunities for diplomacy. The evolution of diplomatic strategies was advocated for the times while maintaining traditional Bahraini values of peace and cooperation.
The debates that were held within the institutions of the Diplomatic Forum brought to the fore the voices of hope and not despair, and the preparations of the Kingdom of Bahrain to assume tasks that genuinely suit its status on the international stage. The Foreign Ministry affirmed its commitment to mobilizing state attires and all other sectors to work together to elect Bahrain to the Security Council, which would cement the Kingdom’s role in shaping pivotal global policies.
The exchanges that took place during the Diplomatic Forum brought to light a common sense of optimism and a spirit of determination, as Bahrain embraces its tasks, reflecting its major role on the world stage. This is reiterating the commitment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in mobilizing the activities of all sectors toward the successful election of Bahrain to the UN Security Council and thus further affirming the role of the Kingdom in influencing major global decisions.
In addition, it was also a significant reminder that such strategic discussions be made with the involvement of Bahraini diplomats and officials – a policy that has been embodied in the Kingdom’s efforts to build cordial relations with all world counterparts. This spirit of bilateral cooperation is seen as vital for Bahrain’s pursuit of its objectives on a multilateral stage.
As Bahrain moves forward with its campaign for the 2026-2027 term, it shines like a shining beacon of peace, cooperation and competent diplomacy on the Middle Eastern and global scene. Conducted during this year Diplomatic Forum, the session represents a major leap forward in buoying Bahrain’s footprint on the world stage, guided by a true desire to consolidate a more secure and harmonious world.
