Following Israel’s attack on Iran, several countries across the world reacted to the move, mostly condemning Israel.
After Israel’s attack on Iran this Saturday, Washington and London were the only Israeli allies that publicly supported the attack and called it an act of self-defense. Other countries, however, reacted differently, mostly blaming Israel for the move.
The United States supported the Israeli attack, calling it “self-defense” while insisting that its forces were not involved. Britain also supported Israel and claimed that the attack was in self-defense.
France, however, took a different stance and urged both sides to refrain from escalating tensions, but did not condemn or express support for the Israeli attack.
German Chancellor Olaf Schultz said in a statement that Germany does not support Israel’s actions, but warned Iran not to retaliate.
Openly condemning Israel’s attack on Iran, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that what Israel did was “a violation of international law, a violation of sovereignty and a serious escalation of tension that threatens regional stability and global security.”
Saudi Arabia also condemned the Israeli attack, but did not mention Israel by name in its statement.
“The kingdom affirms its firm position in its rejection of the continued escalation in the region and the expansion of the conflict that threatens the security and stability of the countries and peoples of the region,” the Saudi foreign ministry said in a statement.
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry announced that it is “extremely concerned” about the escalation of tension in West Asia, including Israel’s air attack on Iran, and “will condemn an action that threatens the security and stability of the region.”
The United Arab Emirates, which Israel considers to be its ally, issued a statement on its foreign ministry website and wrote: “the UAE strongly condemns the military targeting of the Islamic Republic of Iran and is deeply concerned about the continued escalation of tension and its impact on the security and stability of the region.”
Qatar, which has participated in the ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, expressed its strong condemnation of Israel’s targeting Iran and called the attack “a clear violation of Iran’s sovereignty and a clear violation of international laws.”
Turkey also expressed its “strongest condemnation” of Israel’s military actions against Iran and said that Israel is fuelling instability in the region by doing such provocative moves.
