After Iran’s massive missile attack on Israel this Tuesday, news agencies and officials from different countries addressed different dimensions of the incident.
A few hours after Iran’s massive missile attack on Israel on this Tuesday, Daniel Hagari, the spokesman of the Israeli army said that “Iran’s missile attack was serious and will have severe consequences for Tehran.”
Refusing to speak about the manner and timing of Israel’s response to Iran’s new missile attack, Hagari only noted that he did not know about the possible casualties of this rocket, but was sure that several rockets hit the center and south of Israel.
“We are on high alert both defensively and offensively. We will defend the citizens of Israel. This attack will have severe consequences for Iran. We have plans and we will act when and where we decide,” Hagari also said.
Israel’s Haaretz also reported the missile attack and said that following Iran’s strike, the alarm sounded throughout Israel, and after the Israelis rushed to the bomb shelters, numerous explosions were heard in Jerusalem and the Jordan River Valley.
US always there to stand for Israel
Hours after the attack, the White House announced that US President Joe Biden had ordered the country’s military to help defend Israel against Iranian attacks and shoot down missiles targeting Israel.
The White House also said in a statement that Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are monitoring Iran’s attack on Israel from the White House situation room and are receiving real-time information from their national security team.
Israel’s military confirmed that a number of rockets landed in open areas in Netanya, located in the Hod Hasharon area, which is part of the greater Tel Aviv area. The Yedioth Aharonot newspaper reported that explosions were heard in parts of the area, although no further details have yet been provided. Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon closed their airspace on Tuesday evening after Iran’s missile attack on Israel.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said a day before the Iranian attack that he had spoken with his Israeli counterpart, Yoav Gallant, about the “threat of an imminent Iranian attack” against Israel. “I informed Mr. Gallant that in recent days, the United States has increased the readiness of its forces and continues to maintain a significant military capability in the region. I clearly stated that the United States will defend Its personnel, allies and partners are ready to face the threats of Iran and terrorist organizations supported by Iran,” he said.
UK announced support for Israel
Following Iran’s attack on Israel, the BBC quoted senior British military officials as saying that British fighter jets were involved in supporting Israel, just as they did during Iran’s attacks in April. British Defense Secretary John Healey said that British forces “played their part well in trying to prevent damage to Israel during this new missile attack from Iran.”
The British Prime Minister also addressed the incident and said that UK stands by Israel and recognizes Israel’s “right to self-defense”. France and Japan also condemned Iran’s attacks on Israel and called on all parties to avoid further escalation of the conflict.
