Israel has attacked many locations in Lebanon with airstrikes throughout the past twenty-four hours. Lebanese citizens are frantically trying to find safe places to send their family to, yet hundreds of them are dead, thousands are injured, and thousands are displaced.
The Israeli army claimed to have targeted around 1,000 locations in Lebanon as part of its a new stage of assault on Gaza, citing them as Hezbollah headquarters or armed forces positioned in civilian houses. Recently, Israel has assassinated at least 558 Lebanese citizens. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, 2,000 persons were injured and 50 children and 94 women were among the fatalities. In the most brutal assault, almost 10,000 individuals have been ejected from their houses.
At 6:30 am on Monday, the first Israeli attacks on Lebanon were reported; they targeted an unpopulated region north of Beirut, close to Byblos. Following, Israel claimed to have launched over 1,300 attacks on Hezbollah armed sites. The assaults continue to be on.
The satellite analysis of the strikes reveals assaults all throughout Lebanon. Prior to the assaults, there were around 80,000 phone calls from the Israeli army to Lebanese citizens, most of whom were in the south, telling them to leave their houses and reach security. As a result, there was fear, destruction, and traffic jams. Residents attempted to escape an approaching attack, clogging the major coastline route to Beirut for many miles.
Israel claims that it is targeting Hezbollah in order to send its displaced residents back up north. In an apparent indication that the battle on Gaza was coming to an end, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant declared on Wednesday that requires, materials, and effort were being redeployed towards the north and Hezbollah as the conflict entered a new stage.
Gallant said that this was a part of an attempt to repatriate the 65,000 Israelis who he had ordered to be evacuated during the early stages of the fighting because he was afraid Hezbollah would assault their houses close to Lebanon’s border.
Although Israel and Hezbollah have been engaged in a continuous firefight over Lebanon’s southern boundary since October 2023, that major Hezbollah onslaught never materialized. Hezbollah has vowed to continue attacking until Israel and Hamas, the group’s affiliate in Gaza, agree on a truce.
Israel’s military spokesman did not rule out a ground invasion of Lebanon during a press conference on Monday night, saying, “We will do whatever is necessary to bring back home all of our citizens to the northern border safely.”
