The president of Iran claims that Israel intends to start a full-scale conflict in the Middle East. Pezeshkian claims that Israel is inciting Tehran to intervene in the confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, which has been going on for almost a year.
Tehran does not want to be the source of regional turmoil, according to Pezeshkian, since the effects would be permanent. The Iranian president was addressing a gathering of American media reporters when he arrived in New York to take part in the United Nations General Assembly.
“We do not want conflict; we want to live in peace. Israel is the one attempting to instigate this full-scale war.” Pezeshkian said that Israel was committing genocide in Gaza and blamed the international world for remaining negligent.
Pezeshkian called for a diplomatic solution to the Middle East crisis following Israeli heavy bombings on Hezbollah yesterday. After almost a year of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah fighters, the attacks made that day in Lebanese soils the bloodiest.
According to Pezeshkian, Iran would support any organization that is protecting its own interests and rights. It was an answer to the query of whether Iran will join the war against Hezbollah and Israel.
Israel-Lebanon Conflict
Josep Borrell, the head of EU foreign policy, called the state of affairs something like a full-scale war. The time to act is now in New York, he said, pleading with international leaders to take every necessary action to put an end to it.
Nearly regular trade of bombardment has forced many thousands of residents fleeing cities and communities on either side of the boundary. According to Israel, a diplomatic settlement that would see Hezbollah retreat further from its frontier is what it desires.
But according to Hezbollah, the violence won’t cease until the conflict in Gaza is resolved. The organization declares its desire to avoid a full-scale confrontation. After various rounds of stalling negotiations facilitated by Qatar, Egypt, and the US, efforts to establish a truce in Gaza have reached a standstill.
Iranian new president has reaffirmed the country’s opposition to Israel and its backing for resistance groups on several occasions. When questioned if Tehran will take revenge for the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas, Iranian president said that Tehran will act appropriately, at the right time and location. Concerns of a direct confrontation between Iran and its regional rival Israel have increased following Haniyeh’s death in a region rattled by Israel’s assault in Gaza and escalating hostilities in Lebanon. Although Israel declined to accept responsibility, Tehran and Hamas both accused Israel of being liable for the murder. Iranian leader and security authorities of the country have promised grave retaliation for Haniyeh’s death.
