Despite Iranian leaders have said several times through official statements that Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons, the US Defense of Democracy Foundation has recently suggested a comprehensive plan for the Biden administration to counter Tehran’s nuclear program through a variety of military and non-military measures.
In a report published this Thursday, the Defense of Democracy Foundation outlined a hostile plan for the Biden administration on how to counter Iran’s nuclear program through various military and non-military measures.
“In the past, the United States has relied on sanctions, isolation, sabotage and the threat of use of force against Iran as its key tools to curb the country’s nuclear program. But in light of recent international developments, sanctions and isolation are no longer working as used to in the past,” the report said.
Also noting that the significant growth of Iran’s nuclear program and uranium reserves has made it “impossible” to carry out sabotage programs in slowing down or stopping Iran, the report said that “the more effective use of the threat of force to prevent Iran’s nuclear developments of various kinds, along with other non-military measures, is now the most important and perhaps the only remaining tool for the United States to fulfill its long-standing non-proliferation commitment and prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.”
The whole story, however, contradicts with several statements from the Iranian officials that the Islamic Republic is not seeking to develop nuclear weapons.
“Some important steps the Biden administration must take quickly to build its ability to deter Tehran from advancing toward a nuclear arsenal before the US election on November 5 and the inauguration on January 20 include the followings;
- The initial steps recommended for the United States to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon in the coming months should first include gathering the latest information on Iran’s nuclear program.
- The United States should identify the full range of Iran’s most recent and potentially significant nuclear developments and plan for a set of military and civilian responses with its allies to use in the event of any new advances.
- The responses should not only seek to slow down this development, but the goal should be to reverse them in order to impose more costs on Tehran.
FDD’s military prescription for Washington against Tehran
The report then recommended military actions for the United States to prevent Iran’s nuclear developments in the coming months and introduced them as following:
- The government should consider classified intelligence assessments related to Iran’s nuclear weapons program to create domestic and international consensus and to develop the necessary military deterrence strategies against Iran.
- To prevent further significant nuclear developments or acceleration in Iran’s nuclear program, the US government should consider deploying special forces in Iran’s neighborhood, at least temporarily, to demonstrate to Iranian leaders that the US government’s political will to stop Iran’s nuclear program is serious.
- The American military forces must regularly participate in military exercises as well as the number of land, air and sea drills with the military forces of Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Expand Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Iraq to prepare for a possible attack on Iran’s nuclear sites.
- The Biden administration should officially announce a comprehensive plan to systematically deepen and expand US-Israel intelligence sharing and inform Iran’s nuclear program.
