Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called upon Iranians this Tuesday to take part in the coming presidential election.
During a meeting with thousands of Iranians in Tehran, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called for a large turnout on the election day, when Iranians will vote to elect their 14th president this Friday.
Emphasized that the key to national pride in the elections lies in maximum public participation and the election of the most qualified candidate, Khamenei said that “the reason for the insistence and emphasis on maximum participation in the elections is that the most important impact of a high turnout is that it brings honor to the Islamic Republic.”
Asserting that Iran has advanced without relying on foreigners, Khamenei said that the Iranian nation will not permit others to “determine its fate” in the future.
“One thing that helps the Islamic Republic overcome its enemies is the elections. If a good turnout is seen in these elections, then it will make the Islamic Republic proud. But in every election where the turnout was low, the enemies of the Islamic republic have denounced us,” the 85-year-old leader said.
Iran’s next president will face a number of challenges, such as high inflation, unemployment, regional tensions, the Gaza conflict, and international scrutiny of Iran’s nuclear program.
