Iran’s state media reported this Wednesday that over half of the world leaders and top officials arrived in Tehran to attend Iran’s president funeral.
According to a report by Iran’s state media, heads and senior officials of 68 countries traveled to Tehran this Wednesday and attended the funeral of Iran’s deceased president Ebrahim Raisi and his companions who died on Sunday in a helicopter crash in northwest of Iran.
“Sixty-eight heads of states, senior officials of countries and regional and international organizations attended the funeral ceremony hosted by the Acting President Mohammad Mokhber at the Tehran Summit Hall this evening, May 22, 2024, to pay their respects to the martyred president and his companions,” Iran’s IRNA said.
Who exactly attended Raisi’s funeral in Tehran?
The Emir of Qatar, the national leader of Turkmenistan, the presidents of Tunisia and Tajikistan, the prime ministers of Iraq, Pakistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Syria, the presidents of the parliaments of Lebanon, Algeria, Kazakhstan, Mali, Ethiopia, the head of the parliament of Russia and the presidents of the Legislative Assembly and the Supreme Assembly of Uzbekistan, the vice presidents of Turkey and India and the Deputy Prime Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, China, Afghanistan and Serbia were among the senior officials who attended the Tehran Summit Hall and offered their condolences to the Acting President.
In addition, the foreign ministers of Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Venezuela, and Turkey, the the Prime Minister of Jordan, the minister of regional management and infrastructure of Armenia, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia, Minister of Rural Development of Sri Lanka, four ministers from Pakistan, two members of the Cabinet of Serbia, Minister of energy from Nicaragua , the Minister of Urban Development of Local Government of Maldives, the Minister of Religious Affairs of Oman, the Minister of Counselor of Serbia and the Minister of Counselor of the United Arab Emirates were among the other foreign officials present at the ceremony.
Deputy Speaker of Lebanon’s Shiite Supreme Assembly, three members of Parliament of Azerbaijan, two members of Turkish Parliament from the Saadat Party, Speaker and Vice Speaker of Ethiopia’s Islamic Supreme Assembly, Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Secretary General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building in Asia (SICA), President of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, the spokesman and head of the negotiating team of the National Salvation Government of Yemen, and the special envoy of Singapore, also arrived in Tehran to offer condolences to the Acting President and paid tribute to the martyrs. During the three years when Raisi was Iran’s president since 2021, the Islamic Republic took a very active role in rebuilding relations with regional states as well as African and Latino American countries.
