A Washington proposal for an urgent 30-day truce in Russia’s offensive has been accepted by Ukraine. The world is currently waiting for Russia to agree to the same conditions.
Kyiv said it was willing to embrace the US idea to implement a quick, temporary 30-day truce in a joint statement with the US. According to the declaration, both sides may mutually agree to prolong the truce.
The Russian Federation must acknowledge and concurrently execute the outcome of the Jeddah talks. It was decided by both parties to designate their negotiators and start talks right away. The primary objective is a lasting peace that ensures Ukraine’s long-term safety.
The plan will now be taken to Russia by the United States Secretary of State. According to Marco Rubio, the Russian side is to make the choice now. He said that “we’ll regrettably understand what the obstacle is to reconciliation” if the Russian government rejects the agreement.
The agreement signifies a dramatic shift in the US-Ukraine relationship, with both nations now indicating their support for the continued talks. According to the chief of the Ukrainian presidential office, Ukraine showed everyone that it embraces peace; “a just and lasting peace.”
The United States understands Ukraine’s views and supports its proposals, according to the Ukrainian president. while staying in Saudi Arabia, Volodymyr Zelensky did not directly take part in the Jeddah negotiations.
“We Want Peace”
According to Zelensky, Kyiv’s strategy is very obvious. Since the beginning of the conflict, Ukraine has worked to bring about reconciliation. He emphasized that his nation wishes to make every effort to bring about peace swiftly and with a high level of certainty.
The period of calm will begin immediately upon the Russian side’s acceptance of the terms of a full truce. In addition to weapons, drones, and explosives, the Ukrainian president has stated that the whole “frontline” should be cleared.
“Peace is welcome in Ukraine. Russia needs to demonstrate if it is prepared to terminate the conflict or carry on. The time for the complete truth has arrived,” Zelenskyy said in his statement.
The US government, meanwhile, declared that it shall promptly ease the ban on military assistance to Ukraine. It has also restarted sharing intelligence with Kyiv. Over a week passed before the two situations underwent a complete 180-degree change.
Steps have been taken by Donald Trump to pressure Zelenskyy into talks that may result in a peace agreement with the Moscow. The two nations’ officials convened in Jeddah to talk about the potential for a key raw resource agreement. As stated in the declaration issued after the talks, an agreement can be reached in the near future.
