The newly revealed Arab initiative for Gaza has the support of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and a number of European countries. It takes place after Israel’s catastrophic conflict on the embattled city lasted for over 16 months. In a single declaration, France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom affirmed the backing. Yesterday, they endorsed a $53 billion proposal for Gaza’s rehabilitation.
According to the declaration, the scheme aims to rebuild Gaza in a practical manner. The terrible living circumstances for Palestinian people in Gaza are being quickly and permanently improved. It further stated that Hamas should no longer rule Gaza or pose a danger to Israeli state.
The European nations also endorsed the Palestinian Authority’s pivotal position in transfer of power in Gaza. The declaration also restored the carrying out of its reform program.
Developed by Egypt, the proposal was approved by Arab leaders during last month’s Arab League conference in Cairo. The idea was also officially approved by the OIC earlier on Saturday. An emergency summit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, brought it to light.
The group called on local and international financing organizations as well as the global society to quickly offer the plan the assistance it needs. The Muslim world is actually represented by the OIC.
The idea supported by the Arabs is viewed as a response to the offer made by US President. Trump demanded the depopulation of the Gaza Strip. The fresh US president intends to carry out what may amount to ethnic cleansing by developing the city under US supervision.
Approximately six months would pass during the initial phase. The following two stages would span four to five years in total. Rebuilding Gaza while preserving stability and security is the main goal. The reassertion of the Palestinian Authority’s territorial governance comes next.
But the United States and Israel have previously denounced and dismissed the Arab idea. The US State Department claims that the proposal falls short of Washington’s standards. Nevertheless, Trump’s ambassador to the Middle East responded more favorably. Steve Witkoff described the Egyptians’ initial move as being in the right path.
