Bahrain elevated its regional connectivity and economic integration push by putting Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications together with Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General. The senior officials unified to expedite critical infrastructure development while exploring innovative technology applications to sustain regional development.
Senior officials at the meeting discussed how major land, sea and air connectivity projects would improve trade and transportation within GCC countries. Officials stressed that investing together with knowledge sharing about communications and information technology brings the most value to such collaborations. These initiatives form an essential part in boosting economic cooperation while enabling free movements of people and goods across the Gulf region.
In the course of the talks, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed emphasized the need to embrace frontier technologies, especially artificial intelligence, to speed up digital transformation in various sectors. The Minister praised the continuous endeavors exerted by the GCC General Secretariat in regard of enabling regional cooperation and ensuring the upholding of directives of GCC leaders. He stressed Bahrain’s determination to enhance strategic relations with GCC countries and to cooperate with the General Secretariat to expedite the implementation of shared projects especially in transport, telecommunications and infrastructure.
A main point of discussion was the GCC railway network project, a major plan for a common railway linking Gulf members. The significance of this project in enhancing regional trade, improving the efficiency of logistics and reducing transportation costs were emphasized by Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed. He added that the railway network would be a critical component of achieving full economic integration between Gulf states.
