Few hours after inauguration, fresh US President stated that he will most likely have another visit to Saudi Arabia. Donald Trump stated that if the level of transactions was good, it would be his initial experience traveling abroad in the new term. During the initial day back in to power in the United States, Trump issued more than 100 executive orders. The US president was questioned about his last trip to Riyadh in his first year in office, which defied American custom, in the meantime.
Donald Trump declared that the Saudi administration promised to buy hundreds of billions of US dollars’ worth of American products, which is why he travelled to the country in 2017. The remarks were made when the 47th president of the United States was at the Oval Office signing the new orders. He clarified that he had done it with Riyadh previously because they had committed to purchasing $450 billion worth of US-made products.
“I said I’ll do it, but you have to buy American goods, and they agreed to comply with that,” Trump stated. If the country has agreed to purchase even more, he intends to return there. “Well, I don’t know. If Saudi Arabia wanted to buy another 450 or 500, we’d raise it for all the inflation. I think I probably would go there.”
The iconic image of Trump holding a menacing glowing orb was taken during his visit in 2017. He appeared in the picture with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. It’s uncertain if Trump meant what he was saying at the oval office. Nonetheless, the remark demonstrates Trump’s policymaking style by placing his nation’s commerce and economy higher than all other considerations.
Trump-Saudi Ties
During former President’s tenure, ties between Washington and Riyadh deteriorated. It came after Biden criticized Saudi Arabia for murdering Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi national and ardent critic of Saudi policies.
In the final months of its term, the government of Joe Biden attempted to mend the ties with Saudi Arabia. The bonds, however, never appeared to warm completely with Saudi Arabia starting to diversify its allies. The United States and Saudi Arabia have had a far closer connection under Trump. The Saudi crown prince and de-facto ruler was personally close with Trump’s son-in-law, then working as Trump’s top advisor.
When Khashoggi was killed, the partnership became relevant. Saudi operatives carried out the murder. Since Khashoggi lived in the United States, the killing sent ripples across Washington, where calls were made for the president, then Trump, to denounce the killing.
Notwithstanding the outcry following Khashoggi’s death, the Trump cabinet never changed its ties with the kingdom. The Trump Organization also inked an exclusive agreement for a high-end skyscraper real estate development in Saudi Arabia before to retaking power. That appears to be just another indication of the growing relationship between Dar Al Arkan and the Trump Organization. The parent firm of Dar Global, the real estate company engaged in the skyscraper project, is Dar Al Arkan.
The new US president was also frequently spotted with Yasir al-Rumayyan following his loss in the 2020 election. In addition to leading the new LIV Golf campaign, Al-Rumayyan is the chairman of Saudi Arabian national wealth fund.
