Abdul Malik al-Houthi, the leader of Ansarallah, affirmed on this Friday that Yemen’s military efforts to support Palestine would continue if Israel persisted in its attacks on civilians in Gaza before the ceasefire scheduled for Sunday.
In a televised address, Houthi stated that if Israeli forces maintained their violence in the days leading up to the ceasefire, Yemen would continue its operations to assist Palestinians.
Houthi stressed, “Our position is with our Palestinian brothers. If the enemy intensifies or resumes its massacres, we are prepared to continue our military support.” He reiterated Yemen’s unwavering commitment to standing by Palestine, emphasizing their readiness to respond to further Israeli aggression.
He also addressed the ceasefire agreement brokered by the US and Qatar, calling it a crucial step. Houthi pointed out that the pressure from months of Israeli-led violence had forced both Israel and the United States to negotiate for a ceasefire. He criticized Israel and the US for their failure in Gaza, noting that despite their superior military and intelligence capabilities, they had not been able to break the resistance or defeat Palestinian fighters. “The enemy has been unsuccessful in Gaza, even with the siege placed on the resistance from the beginning,” Houthi said.
This statement came a day after the Yemeni Armed Forces (YAF) launched another attack on the USS Harry Truman aircraft carrier and other US warships in the Red Sea. This marked the sixth such strike since the USS Truman arrived in the region late last year.
Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reported that neither the US nor Israel seemed to plan to stop their aggression against Yemen, even with the ceasefire in Gaza. The report also revealed that Washington had been in discussions with representatives from UAE-backed mercenaries in Saudi Arabia, suggesting continued US involvement in the region, particularly in Yemen, despite the ceasefire announcement.
Yemen itself has endured continuous bombings over the past year, as a US-led coalition sought to curb Yemen’s involvement in supporting Palestine. On January 10, the US, UK, and Israel launched a triple attack on Yemen, targeting areas including a location in the capital where a large civilian demonstration was taking place.
Since the ceasefire was announced on January 17, Israeli forces have continued their operations in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of at least 87 Palestinians, including many women and children. These ongoing attacks underline the persistence of violence in the region and the continuing struggles faced by both Yemen and Palestine in their fight for justice and self-determination.
