The United States has told Iran that if it carries out a retaliatory attack against Israel in response to last month’s attacks on a number of Iranian military sites, Washington won’t be able to restrain Israel’s next attacks.
As Israel is expecting a harsh response from Iran in retaliation for its last month attack on a number of Iranian military sites, the US has told Iranian officials that if Tehran decides to carry out the retaliatory attack, then Washington won’t be able to restrain Israel’s next attacks on Iran.
According to a report in this regard that was published by the Axios this Sunday, Washington has passed the message along via Switzerland, warning the Islamic Republic that it “won’t be able to hold Israel back” if Tehran retaliates to Tel Aviv’s latest attack.
Citing from one US official familiar with the matter, the report noted: “We told the Iranians: We won’t be able to hold Israel back, and we won’t be able to make sure that the next attack will be calibrated and targeted as the previous one.”
In a separate report published last week, Axios also noted, citing Israeli intelligence estimates, that Iran’s decision to retaliate is final and will happen in the coming days. “Iran plans to carry out the retaliatory attack against Israel from Iraqi territory and will use a large number of drones and ballistic missiles,” the report noted.
It was during the early hours of 26 October that Israel launched a missile and drone attack on Iranian military sites in the provinces of Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam. The attack followed Iran’s launching of hundreds of ballistic missiles at Israel in early October.
Iranian air defenses managed to intercept a significant portion of the incoming projectiles and thwart the majority of the strikes, according to Iranian officials. However, they confirmed that four Iranian soldiers were killed in the attack. Israel also has its own narration of the story, claiming that the attack could inflict huge damage to Iran’s missile and drone production lines.
Iran’s response to Israel is an already-made decision
A few hours after Israel’s attack on Iran, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned that Israel will receive a “tooth-breaking” response for its actions against the Islamic Republic “and the rest of the resistance front.”
“We will do whatever is necessary in confronting arrogance, whether in terms of military and armament or politically. The Iranian people and officials will never hesitate in facing global arrogance and the criminal apparatus ruling the world order,” he also said.
Other Iranian officials, including the head of Khamenei’s office and the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) also vowed that Tehran’s response “will be severe, and the enemy will regret it.”
