Following Israel’s recent attack on Iran, Tel Aviv is now on high alert, preparing for Tehran’s hit-back.
According to a report by CNN, siting from an Israeli military source, Israel is on high alert for a possible retaliatory attack from Iran in response to Israel’s airstrike against targets in Iran last week.
Quoting from the military source who spoke under the condition of anonymity, the report said that Israel believes Iran will probably carry out the attack before the US elections scheduled for 5 November.
“Israel is at a high level of readiness for a response from Iran before the US presidential election,” the source told CNN this Saturday.
The military source also noted that the recent Israeli strikes targeting missile production facilities and air defense systems in Iran have created a dilemma for Tehran because its capability to strike Israel and defend against future Israeli strikes has been degraded.
In addition, two other unnamed Israeli sources told Axios on Thursday that according to Israeli intelligence, Iran is preparing to attack Israel from Iraqi territory in the coming days.
They also referred to the timing of the attack and explained that the attack may occur before the US presidential election on 5 November and that the attack is expected to be carried out using a large number of drones and ballistic missiles.
Iranian officials vowed retaliation!
Promising to retaliate Israel’s attack on Iran, a senior member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) threatened that “the occupation would receive significant blows in the coming days.”
“The Zionist entity will receive more deadly blows in the coming days,” said assistant commander of the IRGC for coordination affairs Mohammad Reza Naqdi.
Naqdi also asserted that Israel “will be surprised by new actions, initiatives and innovations and will suffer greater defeats.” However, he did not specify who would launch the attack on the occupation and when exactly. Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also reportedly instructed the country’s Supreme National Security Council to prepare for a retaliatory attack on Israel, describing Israel’s attack “too major to be ignored”.
Iran’s leader reportedly made the decision on Monday after reviewing a detailed report from senior military leaders on the extent of damage to Iran’s missile production capabilities and air defense systems around Tehran. According to one Iranian official who spoke with Reuters, Khamenei has reportedly said that based on the extent of damage caused to Iranian military capabilities, “failure to respond means admitting defeat”.
“Iranian military leaders are now preparing a list of military targets inside Israel, but the attacks were likely to occur after the US elections because Iran is concerned that another wave of tension and chaos in the region could benefit former President Donald Trump in his re-election campaign,” the Iranian source said.
