An explosive drone hit Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s house this Saturday amid rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.
This Saturday, an explosive drone was launched allegedly by Hezbollah from Lebanon and hit Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private home in the coastal town of Caesarea.
Although the Israeli government said in a statement that neither Netanyahu nor hie wife were not present in the house at the time of the attack, this is the first time since the beginning of the war in Gaza last year that Netanyahu has been targeted directly.
Netanyahu’s spokesperson confirmed his private residence was targeted on Saturday morning local time, adding: “The prime minister and his wife were not at the residence at the time of the attack and there were no casualties.”
He also noted that of the three drones that were launched from Lebanon and crossed into Israeli airspace, two were intercepted by Israeli attack helicopters but the third eluded them and hit Netanyahu’s private home in Caesarea.
Netanyahu vowed response!
Reacting to the attack, Netanyahu said in a short video in English that nothing will deter him from continuing Israel’s fight against Iran and its proxies.
Asserting that he is undeterred from his war aims following the drone attack on his private residence, the Israeli Prime Minister warned that “anyone who tries to harm Israel’s citizens will pay a heavy price”.
“The attempt by Iran’s proxy Hezbollah to assassinate me and my wife today was a grave mistake,” he also wrote in a post on X.
Hezbollah didn’t claim responsibility for the attack but said it carried out several rocket attacks on Israel the same day. The new attack on Israel came as Israel is expected to respond to an attack earlier this month by Iran. Israel in turn carried out at least 10 airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs known as Dahiyeh.
Lebanese authorities noted that the area is heavily populated by civilians, but Israel’s military said it struck Hezbollah targets only.
Indirectly refusing to believe Israel, the US defense secretary, Lloyd Austin, called civilian casualties in Lebanon “far too high” in the intensifying Israel-Hezbollah war and urged Israel to scale back some strikes, especially in and around Beirut.
