Insisting that Israel must continue the war to reach the unreachable goals against Hamas, Netanyahu is in fact going against what the Israeli public wants.
A few days after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7 last year, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared on national TV and declared defiantly that his war goals include “to destroy Hamas, to bring back all of our hostages, to ensure that Gaza will no longer present a threat to Israel, and to safely return the residents of the northern border.”
Back then, many Israelis praised Bibi for standing against Hamas and for being so decisive about his war goals. However, as the war continued to leave devastating effects on both Palestinians and Israelis, the latter realized that there was something wrong with Netanyahu’s stubborn stance on achieving his war goals at any price possible.
No trust in Netanyahu’s agenda anymore!
The Israeli public became even more suspicious when on multiple occasions, especially during recent months, he had the opportunity to end the war with Hamas and bring hundreds of Israeli hostages back to Israel and to their families.
Every time that a peace or truce proposal was put forward by the middling countries, including the US, Netanyahu refused to agree and simply stated that Israel intends to continue the war until total victory.
Now, however, Netanyahu can’t speak for Israelis as most of them have openly disagreed with him and his delusional war objectives. A recently carried out poll by the Times of Israel found that 72 percent of Israelis think Netanyahu needs to resign over the failures of October 7.
Of those, 44 percent believe the prime minister needs to quit immediately, while another 28 percent believe he should resign when the war ends. The poll also found that half of those who defined themselves as supporters of the government before October 7 now believe Netanyahu must leave office before the end of his term.
