Despite US president Joe Biden has claimed on several occasions that a ceasefire agreement is within reach between Israel and Hamas, his White house now says an imminent truce in Gaza might never happen.
US officials in the White House said this Saturday that a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement between Israel and the Palestinian resistance in Gaza might never become a reality.
According to top White House and Pentagon officials who spoke with the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) under the condition of anonymity, “no deal is imminent, and there is no certainty that it ever gets done.”
Likewise, CNN reported on Thursday that according to US national security advisers, Washington has “no imminent plans” to present President Joe Biden with an updated ceasefire proposal, signaling that “talks to end the conflict have seriously reached a stalemate.”
These new words from White House come while people from the same place, especially US President Joe Biden, have been asserting for months in public comments that a deal is within reach in the very near future.
Likewise, US State Secretary Anthony Blinken told reporters during his visit to Cairo last week that a ceasefire deal has been almost concluded between Israel and Hamas. “Most terms in the had been agreed upon and we’ve made a tremendous amount of progress over the last month, month and a half. There are, I think, in the agreement, 18 paragraphs; 15 of them are agreed. But the remaining issues need to be resolved,” Blinken said.
Calling the bluff from the Biden administration, an Arab official also told the WSJ that “there [is] no chance now of it happening … Everyone is in a wait-and-see mode until after the [US] election. The outcome will determine what can happen in the next administration,”.
Netanyahu doesn’t want a deal, and Washington seems blind to it!
At the same time as the Biden administration has been falsely spreading the news that a deal between Israel and Hamas is imminent, Israel’s Channel 12 News this week said in a report that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is relentless to sabotage any agreement that might finally end the war in Gaza and secure the safe return of Israeli hostages.
“[Since November] Israel’s negotiation team was sent on what is ultimately a futile mission to secure another deal that would bring home more hostages. Along the way … Netanyahu did everything in his power to make sure they [were] not successful. He repeatedly prevented them from traveling to ceasefire talks, or greatly limited their negotiation powers when they are allowed to go,” the Israeli news channel said.
“Netanyahu deliberately imposes impossible conditions to sabotage any chance of reaching an agreement. The occupation poses a threat to Arabs and the entire region. We face it in the West Bank and Gaza, and the region will not calm down unless the aggression on Gaza stops,” the report added.
