Hezbollah claims to have finished its counteroffensive against Israel in retaliation for the late July assassination of Fuad Shukr. Israel claimed earlier on Sunday that it had carried out “preemptive” attacks. When Tel Aviv learned that Hezbollah was getting ready to strike the northern region of Israel, it launched the strikes.
However, Hassan Nasrallah, the head of Hezbollah, refuted that, claiming in a televised statement that the organization had the capability to effectively fire all of its aircraft and projectiles. Since Israeli assault on Gaza began last year, Hezbollah and Israel have been trading mildly to moderately intense cross-border strikes. There has been a noticeable uptick in the recent attack.
Hezbollah’s retaliatory attack was expected, given that it was taking place shortly after key Hezbollah and Hamas officials were attacked and killed, with the blame placed on Tel Aviv.
Over 320 Katyusha rockets, according to Hezbollah, were launched against 11 Israeli military facilities and camps. Among the objectives were four locations in the occupied Golan Heights, the Meron base, and an intelligence center located in Glilot, close to the Israeli capital.
The strikes were a clear escalation of the months-long tit-for-tat attacks between Israel and Lebanon. Along the 70-mile border, up to three miles in depth, was where the majority of Israeli strikes against Lebanon occurred. The zone is currently a military area along the boundary. Following Israeli army’s several attacks, the region has been deserted.
Casualties
Israel claims that hundreds of Hezbollah rocket pads in southern regions of Lebanon were destroyed by 100 of its aircraft. In order to shield Israelis from the intended strike, the attack was carried out 30 minutes prior to Hezbollah’s scheduled assault.
This assertion, according to Nasrallah, is the Israeli effort to maintain credibility. The head of Hezbollah stated that the Israeli people were hiding the harm that the areas they were targeting had sustained.
According to the Israeli armed forces, fighting in northern Israel claimed the lives of one navy sailor and injured two more. A subsequent Israeli drone assault in Qasimia resulted in one person suffering serious injuries, according to the local sources in Lebanon. In addition, one civilian perished in the city of Khiam by an attack.
Israeli minister of defense, announced a 48-hour special emergency starting at 6 a.m. on Sunday. Earlier in the day, there were rumors of some casualties in northern Israel, therefore Israel’s Ben Gurion airport was briefly stopped delivering services.
A number of limitations on residents in northern Israel and the Golan Heights have been issued by the Israeli military. The Israeli prime minister announced that drones headed for a vital objective in Israeli central regions had been caught by the Israeli military.
According to Netanyahu, Israel is committed to defending itself to the fullest extent feasible. “We harm the one who harms us.”
