In a recently released video from Hezbollah’s tunnels, soldiers are seen navigating well-lit subterranean routes on big vehicles. As the trucks pass through, it becomes evident what the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah is revealing is a vast system of tunnels utilized to fire and keep missiles, which will undoubtedly be a crucial asset in a war with Israel.
According to specialists, the movie which is called Our Mountains, Our Treasures, is a warning to Israel that if it conducts a significant operation against the organization, Hezbollah may utilize its vast stockpile of covert weapons to strike.
Israel and Hezbollah have been engaged in a low-key border confrontation since October 8. According to the Lebanese organization, its immediate goal is to ease pressure on Gaza, where over the last ten months, Israel has waged war on the Palestinian enclave, killing over 40,000 citizens and uprooting virtually all of its 2.3 million inhabitants. Following strikes on southern Israel by the Palestinian organization Hamas, which resulted in 1,139 deaths and over 250 kidnappings, the war broke out on October 7.
Hezbollah has consistently maintained that if Hamas-Israel agree on a truce in Gaza, it will cease its attacks on northern Israel. However, Israel has consistently blocked proposals at a truce, choosing instead to intensify its airstrikes against Lebanese and Hezbollah villages.
With the deaths of Hamas’s political chief, Ismail Haniyeh, and Hezbollah’s second commander, Fuad Shukr, last month, there are growing fears of a regional war. According to analysts, Hezbollah’s most recent video seeks to restore deterrence against Israel by showcasing its vast and advanced combat potentialities.
Hezbollah’s Aim of Releasing such Video
The organization has declared that this is a warning to the Israelis not to take them lightly and that if it pushes excessively, they have a lot more power to use against them. It should be added that, in the video the location of the tunnels and how the work cannot be determined. Actually, all that is understood from the video is the existence of these tunnels, their size and function as underground roadways, the apparent storage of weapons therein, and their connection to holes above ground from which Hezbollah may fire.
Naturally, Hezbollah deliberately withholds some information from the public. The organization must keep its military activities covert from Israel, an adversary possessing far more air power and weaponry. Michael Young, a specialist on Lebanon and the wider area suggests that the movie is a component of a larger psychological warfare campaign Hezbollah is undertaking against Israel.
