Donald Trump has received a visit from Israeli Prime Minister during the latter’s tour to the United States. The meeting was held at his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, and US former president brushed off any hints of friction between the two sides.
Israeli prime minister had the meeting with Trump while he has no official position except being known as the main Republican running the campaign for office. A day earlier, the disputed Israeli leader had just met Democratic president Joe Biden and vice president Kamala Harris, the latter of whom is anticipated to challenge Trump in November election.
The visit concluded Netanyahu’s week-long journey to the United States, which was greeted with large demonstrations, boycotts by American politicians, and alerts from human rights organizations on Israeli conducts in Gaza. Trump welcomed Netanyahu and his spouse Sara while chastising Harris for expressing worry in remarks made public following their meeting with the Israeli premier.
The impact of Israel’s attack on the encircled zone on Palestinian people was the focus of Harris’s criticism. Trump stated that he felt her comments were indecent. Israeli prime minister stated that Israel will likely send a negotiation delegation to Rome at the start of the week to examine a framework for an end to violence in Gaza.
He stated that he believed Israeli armed forces and their conduct in Gaza were the reason for the rise in attempts to negotiate a truce. Trump denied any indication that he and Netanyahu were at odds, claiming that their bonds had always been excellent.
Netanyahu’s Disputed Tour
Netanyahu’s tour came after he addressed a session of US House, met with US president Biden in the White House, and had another conversation with Harris. Netanyahu, who has a reputation for being able to navigate the unpredictable political climate in Washington, is widely believed to be making an attempt to patch things up with Trump prior to the November election.
With regard to US-Israeli relations, Trump, whose first term of presidency ended in 2020, had a transactional and lax stance. The strategy essentially ignored Palestinian concerns while strengthening Netanyahu’s administration. However, the friendship soured after Netanyahu acknowledged that Biden prevailed in the 2020 presidential vote while Trump accused fraud.
Prior to the visit, representatives informed the Israeli press that Bibi had already started his charm attack and had called Trump after long years.
In his address to Congress, Netanyahu made a point of highlighting a number of Trump’s policies. Among them was negotiating the Abraham Accords, by which Israel forged relations with a number of Arab nations. In the speech, Trump was commended for his decisions to recognize Israel’s right to the Golan Heights in Syria and to relocate the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Following his speech to Congress, authorities stated that Israeli pm met with president at the White House, where Biden put pressure on Netanyahu to accept a US-proposed cease-fire in Gaza. Israeli forces have been attacking Gaza since 10 months ago, and Palestinian sources claim that at over 39,000 Palestinians have died and over 90,000 have been wounded.
