As the Gaza war and Israel’s ruthless attacks against Palestinians still continue after more than five months, Tel Aviv is losing support from both in and out of the occupied lands.
The war in Gaza, with the ruthless attacks from air and ground by Israel, is still an ongoing tragic story that has been hitting the headlines across the world for nearly five months and a half. Latest official figures say that since October 7, Israeli attacks against Palestinians have killed well over 30,000 men, women, and children and injured many more. But this is not the end of the tragedy because Israeli decision makers seem to be deaf to the voices across the international community that demand ceasefire and intends to complete the genocide by invading the most populated area in the world, Rafah.
Early this week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved plans for an attack on Rafah, the southernmost city in Gaza, where more than a million people displaced from elsewhere in the territory have sought shelter.
“The decision was made as a ship towing a barge loaded with food arrived off Gaza on Friday, March 15. It was a test run for a new aid route by sea from Cyprus into the devastated Palestinian territory, where famine looms after five months of Israel’s military campaign,” the Guardian said in a report, adding that “any attack on Rafah is likely to cause civilian casualties and worsen an already acute humanitarian crisis across Gaza.”
Israel is moving towards complete isolation from every direction!
Netanyahu’s endless brutality, however, is beginning to incur heavy costs on Israel by turning Tel Aviv into an outcast from both in and out of the occupied lands. Israel is now hearing voices of strong opposition from its most strategic ally, the United States, regarding the continuation of the Gaza war.
In remarks to US lawmakers from the Senate floor this Sunday, Chuck Schumer, the US Senate leader and a longstanding supporter of Israel strongly rebuked attacks against Palestinians and said Israel is risking to become a ‘pariah state’ and that he believed Netanyahu “has lost his way by allowing his political survival to take precedence over the best interests of Israel”.
To make matters worse for Israel, Canada’s parliament announced this Tuesday that it will impose a ban on arms sales to Israel in a reaction to the ongoing attacks against Palestinians. Canada, which is considered another strategic ally for Israel, had previously temporarily suspended export permits for military goods to Israel.
Following the parliament vote on Monday, Canada decided to permanently ban any weapons sale to Tel Aviv. Several other countries, including Spain, the Netherlands, Japan, and Belgium, have also taken similar steps in opposition to Israel’s violence and bloodshed against the Palestinian people.
Israel is losing support from its own people!
In addition to losing longstanding allies, Israel’s persistency on continuing the war is causing Tel Aviv heavy social costs as well. According to the results of a newly-conducted poll by the Hebrew University at the initiative of the World Zionist Organization (WZO), more than 80 percent of Israelis currently living outside the occupied lands say that they do not intend to return to Israel even if they feel insecure and uncomfortable for any reason in their countries of residence.
Feeling alarmed by the shocking truth that the survey revealed, the Chair of the WZO Department for Diaspora Activities Gusti Yehoshua Braverman said “most Israelis do not plan on returning to Israel, and an adequate response must be provided for them, wherever they may be. We have to find the [young generation of leaders of Israelis abroad], nurture them, and provide them with the tools for coping with antisemitism around the world.”
