According to reports, Israel has prepared a plan for a two-month ceasefire that would ensure the release of prisoners detained by Hamas and other organizations without putting a stop to the fighting in Gaza.
Yesterday, the US and Israeli press reported that Israel is hopeful about reaching an agreement with US assistance. The concept is being presented against the context of escalating criticism against the Israeli administration to reach a resolution to allow the hostages to return home and heightened fighting in southern Gaza.
According to Israeli sources cited by Axios, the plan was communicated to Hamas via intermediaries in Cairo and Doha. It involves the release of all Israeli prisoners held in Gaza for a two-month ceasefire.
According to Israeli media, the agreement consists of three or four phases of detainee transfer. The Israeli force would leave the enclave in the meantime, but the conflict would not cease.
According to accounts, Washington and its regional allies are promoting the proposal. Washington’s coordinator for the Middle East, is currently in Egypt to talk about the agreement and intends to go to Qatar too.
Reporters observed stated that the proposal called for the release of prisoners gradually, beginning with women and those older than sixty.
A second stage would involve the transfer of men and women who Hamas considered to be non-combatants. There would be male troops and corpses inside Gaza during the third phase.
To enable Palestinian people to get back home, Israeli forces may be relocated out of some metropolitan areas in the meantime.
Pressure by Hostage Relatives
The relatives of the prisoners in Israel have been putting more and more strain on Israeli Prime Minister to reach a settlement. They fear that there is not much time left to get their families home alive in the midst of the continuous shelling of Gaza.
Dozens of family members barged into a parliamentary committee hearing yesterday, insisting that the administration strike a deal to secure the freedom of their relations.
Approximately 100 of the approximately 240 prisoners carried into Gaza on October 7 during Hamas’s surprise strike inside Israel were freed during a week-long ceasefire last November. Since then, attempts to impose another halt or perhaps a truce have faltered.
However, Israel is becoming increasingly irritated as it refuses to stop its offensive. Israeli Foreign Minister received little traction from the EU when he proposed building an artificial island in the Mediterranean close to the Gaza coast to serve as the center of the city’s trade with the outside world.
Benjamin Netanyahu, meanwhile, has sworn time and time again to continue the onslaught until Hamas is destroyed despite political pressure and demands from conservative coalition allies. The violence in southern Gaza has been more intense, and news of the truce talks have coincided with several hundred civilian deaths, bringing the total number of deaths in the city to over 25,000.
