The third anniversary of the martyrdom of Iran’s top military commander, general Qassim Soleimani by the US previous administration was held in Iran and many other countries around the world.
On January 3, 2020, a drone strike by the Trump administration near Baghdad International Airport in Iraq took the life of top Iranian military commander, general Qassim Soleimani and his companions, including Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the Iraqi military commander.
The assassination, which according to the norms of international law constituted an act of state terrorism, hit the headlines of the media around the world for several days after.
Head of the Quds force, a unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), general Soleimani was considered one of the most powerful military commanders of Iran. His assassination sparked condemnation against the Trump administration in and out of Iran, with Iranian officials promising to take a hard revenge from the perpetrators.
And the threats came true less than a week when on 8 January 2020, and in a military operation code named Operation Martyr Soleimani Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched over 12 ballistic missiles at the American military base of Ayn al-Asad in Al Anbar Governorate, western Iraq, as well as another airbase in Erbil. Good to mention that the strike was the largest ballistic missile attack ever against Americans.
Third anniversary of Gen. Soleimani’s assassination held in Iraq, Lebanon, Nigeria, and Sweden
In the eyes of Iranians, Qassim Soleimani was a national hero when he was alive and an axis of national unity and resistance after his martyrdom. For that, and after three years of the date of the assassination of General Soleimani, people in Iran and other nationals abroad commemorated the martyrdom of the Iranian commander this Monday.
In Tehran, the capital city of Iran, a national ceremony was held in the Grand Mosque of Imam Khomeini, where many top Iranian officials as well as foreign guests were invited.
In Iraq, a similar ceremony was held, where during two separate speeches, Mohammed Kazem Al Sadegh, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Baghdad, and then Ammar Hakim, the head of the Iraqi national wisdom political movement, talked about the character of Martyr Lt General Soleimani and his friend, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
By condemning the US crime in the assassination of the commanders of resistance and victory, both Al Sadegh and Ammar Hakim emphasized on the continuation of the path of these two martyred commanders. Hundreds of Iraqi Shi’a, Sunni, Kurdish and Christian political figures were also present at the special commemoration ceremony at the Iranian embassy in Baghdad.
In Lebanon, the media department of the Islamic Resistance published a new video of the special forces of the Lebanese resistance on the eve of the third anniversary of the martyrdom of Lt. Gen. Soleimani.
The video contained images of resistance forces crossing the barrier wall between occupied Palestine and Lebanon, holding the images of General Soleimani in their hands. Lebanon’s Hezbollah also commemorated the anniversary at Iran’s Assembly in Beirut.
Iran’s Embassies in Nigeria and in Sweden also held commemoration ceremonies a day earlier on Sunday to honor the memory of General Soleimani, where many foreign gusts were invited and gave speeches mostly condemning the US for the assassination and praised the character and the anti-terrorist efforts of the Iranian commander.
