Saudi Arabia reported 753 new cases of Covid-19 and 3 deaths, rising concerns over the country’s approach in dealing with the pandemic.
It was on this Sunday that the Health Ministry of Saudi Arabia announced more than 750 newly infected cases of Covid-19. It also reported 3 deaths as a result of the virus. As of this Monday, the number of infections in Saudi Arabia has reached 776,890 with the death toll rising to 9,170.
Riyadh is where most of the new cases of infection have been founded with 295 cases. Then stands Jeddah with 121, Dammam with 98, Makkah with 32, Hofuf with 30 and Madinah with 25 cases.
The Health Ministry also noted that of all the new 753 current cases, 98 are in critical condition and need special medical care; “633 patients had recovered from Covid-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country over the course of the pandemic to 758,821,” the Ministry said in a statement.
It also added that “8,899 Covid-19 cases were still active, and 25,999 PCR tests were conducted in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number to nearly 43 million. More than 66 million Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered since the immunization campaign began, with over 25 million of our people fully vaccinated.”
This means more than 10 million people are still unvaccinated as the country has more than 35 million inhabitants.
However, health officials noted on Wednesday that getting vaccinated is a must to stop the spread of the virus. They therefore urged Saudis to ensure that they were fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible.
With the coming of the new Omicron variant into the Middle East last year, Saudi Arabia was one of the hardest-hit countries. To read between the lines, Covid-19 cases in the country increased almost tenfold in just over a month, from only 34 on Dec. 1 to 355 cases in less than a month later.
What about other countries?
Satiation in the United Arab Emirates, bordered by Saudi Arabia to the west and south, is no better.
On Saturday, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention reported 1,179 new daily Covid-19 cases. This represents a huge sharp rise in infections over the past four months. This means that Covid-19 infections have more than doubled from the beginning of June when 442 cases were reported.
The Ministry said in a statement that the cases were detected through 253,991 COVID-19 tests over the past 24 hours.
The total number of infected cases in the UAE currently stands at 917,496, with a death toll of 2,305 and 898,305 recoveries as of this Sunday. No death was reported over the past 24 hours.
Iran, however, has managed to control the spread of the pandemic as the country just recorded a second day with zero death toll. This past Friday, Iran’s Health Ministry announced the news.
Following the considerable decrease in the number of infected cases as well, the Airline of the Islamic Republic of Iran (Iran Air) said on Saturday that the previously announced restrictions due to Covid-19 for traveling to Germany and Turkey have been removed.
The US is still at the top of the list with 540,238,904 infected cases and a death toll of 6,330,950 as of this Sunday. China, however, which was where the disease erupted first back in 2018, could very well get the pandemic under control and so far, the country of 1.4 billion has seen only 224,793 infection cases and 5,226 deaths.
